この標準仕様は UNIX のようなオペレーティング・システムに於いてファイルやディレクトリの配置に必要な条件とガイドラインの策定を行っています。ガイドラインはアプリケーションやシステム管理ツール、開発ツールやスクリプト群、そしてシステムのための素晴らしい統一性のあるシステム文章の互換性をサポートするように意図されています。
